The penny has just dropped. I am so sorry. What a fine man.

ah, but 'the perfect length of time' for whom?
I have a fetish for cemetery monuments and a broken column is often the marker for a person who left us far too soon.
peace and love.

I had him for 24 years, the girls barely remember him. I would not say this to Civitarse (thank you Brownie) but it's the reason I hold on to this house. They aren't allowed to talk about their father or have a photo of him in their stepfather's house. When they come to me, they walk back into their father's life for just a few hours and as long as they need that, then I'm staying.

How insecure the stepfather must be. Each time you have mentioned this, something inside me hurts.

I'm not sure if it's the stepfather or Mummy who'd like to forget her past and the lousy things she did.
