Dame Helen Mirren wore this for the naming ceremony for the P&O superliner Ventura. Very last century but I love it.
This is the superliner, 115,000 tonnes, carrying 3,600 passengers and 1,200 crew. The ship even has a West End-style theatre and rock-climbing facilities.
Que?
You'll find me propping up the bar not climbing rock faces.
1200, minus maybe 300 female leaves.......a lot of fun to be had.
ReplyDelete"Dame Helen Mirren wore this..."
ReplyDeleteMakes a pleasant change for her not to be in the nuddy.
Why would anyone want to climb rocks when there are so many other pleasures available?
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do others also see a bedspread when they see that dress?
Dame Helen looks like she could have had her own launching ceremony.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, it could be the other way round and you'd be changed forever...if you survived.
ReplyDeleteIf I looked as good nekkid at her age I'd be running around without clothes. I do already but not where I could frighten small children and Andrew.
River, that dress is me and it doesn't matter if it looks like a bedspread, I've made dresses out of brocade curtains and a bed valance. I could rip it right off her.
Phil, you're forgiven since you only look at cars. If she'd been wearing something overprinted with a maserati, you'd be drooling.
I'd be at the bar too .. would it cure seasickness? Always get seasick
ReplyDeleteGive her sackcloth and ashes and the woman would look good ;)
ReplyDeleteThat boat is a little big for my bath tub - pass.
Therese, it doesn't cure seasickness, it just takes your mind off it. In the film "Carry on Cruising", one of the passenger's runs into the bar and drinks whatever goes with the country the ship's in, never goes ashore. That's the way to cruise.
ReplyDeleteJayne, I'm aiming to look that good when I hit her age except for the hair, that's staying red. Everything else might go but the hair will be last even if I have to buy a wig.
Keep the red hair by all means but don't forget to change the shade to suit aging skin tones and don't forget to match the eyebrows a shade darker. One of my customers is an elderly lady who dyes her hair the same solid black that it must have been when she was 20 but without any highlighting and her eyebrows are white. She looks a little odd............
ReplyDeleteI applaud the dame for her inbuilt flotation devices for if/when the ship goes down under the bulk of that garment....
ReplyDeleteHope I have a rack like that when I'm 109 years old...
Some curtains and bedspreads and even tablecloths just cry out to be made into dresses and that7 one looks darn good. And I'm not just talking about Scarlett o'Hara's curtain dress.
ReplyDeleteLove the flower dress, but Helen mirren just wears it with style. That dress looks right on her. Great photo.
Bella, I have a rack like that but due to gravity it's more likey to take me straight to the bottom.
ReplyDeleteMaria, the trick is not to make the dress until the curtain fabric is out of fashion but with my luck I'll walk into a party and someone's eyes will glaze over.
