THE RUG

I checked the pattern book and 600 squares is supposed to measure 60 inches by 40 inches. Mine seemed to be a little bit bigger, in fact to photograph it I had to put in on the couch and the ironing board. There's no prize if you're bored and start counting to see if there really are 600 squares. I did go through it and I've only repeated the colour combination in 30 of them.

That sort of thing is exactly what I had in mind when my mum said would I like her to make me a rug for the couch, and I said yes please, I'd love one of those colourful ones with all the squares. What she sent instead is her version and my nightmare. can't get rid of it though, hubby likes it, so it stays on his couch, while mine has a length of polar fleece thrown over it. We each have a two seater to lie on.

I could not be more impressed. I am VERY impressed. I can see hours and hours and days and days (and weeks and weeks) of crocheting there, and it's beautiful.

Baron, it is truly a rug worthy of a lay-about Wilbur Beagle with enough room for the magnificent Leonard.

River, every home should have a his and hers couch with non-matching rugs of the non-nightmare variety. At least with the hubby spread all over it, you wouldn't see much of it.

Jayne, nothing wrong with the one you made and you made it in less time than this took me.

Girls, the way Miss C is growing, I'm thinking of saving the fingers for her wedding dress. That child is way beyond gorgeous.

My mother completed a project somewhat like that; crocheted "flowers" of different colour patterns (one colour for the petals, one for the centre) then put them all together to make a crochet rug. I was very impressed then but I am even more impressed now - I know how long it took her but I don't think hers was 600.

Not a patch up to that number (err hmm).

I don't think she tried counting how many times she repeated patterns either!

Congratulations, may your crochet give you much joy. It is beautiful.

Maria, I tried doing a flower one but stitching the flowers together was way beyond my patience level.
I do this one in my sleep as I can't be bothered reading up a new pattern.

From anyone who can do this stuff...that would be wonderful, but from the likes of me who hated sewing, knitting etc with a passion...everything i ever did got vegemite or peanut butter on it or whatever...for the likes of me this is beautiful...how long does something like this take??? I am in awe.

Therese, I loathed sewing classes at school and knitting was torture but I have my mother and grandmother's genes for crafting.

And sewing a dress was the only way I could be presentable with my figure.

Hi, I'm emma, coming out a a lurker. That rug is gorgeous. I don't suppose we could get a pattern for the squares? or failing that, a close up to copy? I love that the pieces are small...
