Aurora

This spectacular Aurora was taken by Antony Spencer from Gillingham, Dorset. The image is beautiful enough but the streak of light almost centre is a Draconid meteor.
A fluke shot as the Draconid meteors show up once every seven years but a great photograph.

Truly beautiful. Reminds me of the eyes in an peacock's tail.

Can we hope this one manages to fall on some big media hotshot...or Wall street banker...or AGL ?

Therese, I've seen auroras before but this one has to be the best.

EC, somebody in comments said 'photoshop' but I hope not. It would be nature's masterpiece.

Jayne, can you imagine seeing a sky full of those meteor streaks? It would bring back memories of that spooky film "The Triffids".

River, we get a lot of these showers at the same time every year as we pass through the various comet debris fields but it's always the northern hemisphere that gets the best.

Bear, I've turned it clockwise and used it as fantastic wallpaper.

Davoh, I'm having enough trouble with this life, let alone think of another.

Hi, my name is Robert, I am retired.
'If I Loved You' this evening in my deepest baritone, intending to follow it up with Some Enchanted Evening, hoping Murderess would show up for the refrain, and indeed there was a knock on the door but it was the lovely Andrea instead (Que???) all the way from Fairfield. Good heavens! This, may I say, has never happened before. So I took her down to the new pizza place in Mason Street, run by the Arabs but very upmarket. We sat at a table on the footpath. It was dark (Arab tradition) and I listened to the sorrows of the lovely Andrea. Seems there was an incident this afternoon on the lawns of her lodgings where she screamed at passers-by for help as the Dept of Human Services ran around trying to stab her in the bum with a tranquilliser. There was that, and other troubles too, quite a party. I listened, and she wanted comment, but I didn't bother, I knew a performance was required, stunning, unusual, a stand on my head act. The waiter brought out two big glasses of pepsi and ice cubes. She picked hers up. I ignored mine, and began. I sang 'Only Make Believe' and all the headlights of traffic going by, and all the robots coming off trains at Newport station, taxi drivers standing outside their cabs, and the Arabs themselves, looked at me with bemusement, incredulity, apprehension, the bums, not realising what it takes to make a poor thing smile.
