NEW HOME PAGE

This cloud is called the Morning Glory. It comes to Burketown in Northern Queensland every September and October. It stretches up to 600 miles and moves at speeds of up to 35mph.

Glider pilots love it and call flying in it as cloud surfing.

The Cloud Appreciation Society is now my new home page.

Optusnet has decided to merge with my hotmail and ninemsn to give me a whole new outlook with a new piece of windows rubbish that I probably won't understand. They let me personalise the page, mauve, nice but with the optusnet yellow all through it, it's not exactly peaceful. But to get to this homepage, I have to load the optusnet/ninemsn garbage and sign in, all of which takes forever. I'll keep the hotmail, they send me recipes.

The only good part on the page is the weather but from now on I'll put my head out of the window to see if it's raining as I click on my cloud page.

If I lived there I would take up gliding.
If I were a glider, I would go live there.
Fantastic.

Thats spectacular! It reminds me of my first flight overseas. The pilot flew right on top of thick cloud cover and then said "Ladies and Gentlemen, we will now decend into Amsterdam" We sailed down into it so gracefully. The sun was comming up over the cloud, and on the ground it stayed overcast the whole month I was there. That kind of beauty stays with you forever!

Thanks, JT!

Oh, Denis Honey, if you lived there,
I would go live there.

I'll bet you would, Beryl my dear, but Hands Off! I saw him first.
Hell, the two of us were soaring together BEFORE YOU WERE EVEN BORN so don't get any ideas, sweetie pie.

Didn't Robert play DFH in 'Out of Africa'?

Actually, I can't remember who played me. I'm finding I can't remember a lot of things these days. Maybe it was the booze. Or all those women. Or maybe it was that little spill I took back in May of '31....
In fact, half the time I can't even remember how to spell my name correctly.

Denys, who is this goawayplease? Huh? Huh? Huh? Sounds like you two are a little tooooo familiar. Well, I never! JahTeh, Zoe, I have but one word of warning for you about this bounder: windburn, baby, he'll give you windburn. He has only one pair of goggles and he's no gentleman with them.

Morning Glory. What a name!
Signed, one of Karen's hounds.

I saw two eagles circling, way, way, way up the other day, and it occurred to me that maybe they go to such a height to cool off.

One day, one day, we'll get to think that we can cloud hop and nestle in, and it will seem so real that it may as well be so. You are bound to be a connosieur of clouds.

Oh, my, JT. I just ran across this one too, so had to pass the word on to you.

Thank you anonymous, I know this one, it's called a circumhorizontal arc and the photo was taken over Idaho last June because I blogged it.

Eagles go up on the thermal currents like gliders and just ride them, no effort on their part. I suppose they were looking for deadies for lunch. Like your new gravatar.

Whereas our beloved Coppery One is more your cumulo nimbus ... well being proprietorial ... OUR cumulo nimbus.

(Runs away quickly ... clutching his comparatively inadequate 34B chest.)

Denys went up in smoke for the same reason that John Kennedy Jr did - the gammy foot. Despite his old foot injury which had earlier prevented him from pilot training:

"...Denys took up flying lessons in 1929 and in the summer of 1930 bought a Gypsy Moth airplane. In England he crashed into the tops of some trees on his brother's estate and slightly damaged the plane, but he had it repaired before sending it out to Africa by boat. Later he entertained Karen Blixen and many friends in Kenya, including Beryl Markham, with plane rides.

In May 1931 Denys flew to his cottage at the sea near Mombasa for a few days, then returned via Voi where he scouted for elephants from the air. With him was his Somali servant, Hamisi.

Shortly after his plane lifted off the ground the next day, May 14, 1931, the plane unexpectedly stalled. In a firey crash both Denys and his servant were killed"

or maybe it was The Revenge Of The Elephant God.

Redford was pretty damn cute in the movie though.

Copperwitch has it just been your birthday ?
I noted from a comment at Food Nazi that your birthday follows Valentines ... ?
We will all come down south and put on a piss-up for ya if it is.

Bow your head Bwca, I'm a LEO, caps are necessary, 31st July, same day as my Dad which made us fighting Leos. Did I comment at the food nazi?
Redford doesn't do much for me and he's only about 2 inches taller than Cruise.

I've seen your indadequate breast, Your Excellency and it would be a minus 34B. Any more caved in and we'd be looking for bears.

The morning glory is really spectacular... I haven't seen it in person, but some of my fellow glider pilot friends have and are trying to talk me into going up there to the middle of nowhere in order to fly it.

Enjoying your blog, by the way!
