I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE

But I found this and I had to share.

It's Prasiolite, a form of green quartz (silicon dioxide SiO2) also know as vermarine but not green amethyst or greened amethyst considered misnomers by gemologists. It is usually produced artificially by heat-treating amethyst to over 900 degrees F. but natural deposits have been found. Since 1950, almost all natural prasiolite has come from a small Brazilian mine, Arizona and some from Poland. Recently quartz has appeared on the market that has been turned green by irradiation.

It has a Refractive Index of 1.55 and Specific Gravity of 2.65 with harness of 7 on the Moh's Scale, making it a durable stone for jewellery.
Intensity of colour and fine clarity are the most important aspects when buying a cut gem. The colour variations go from a pale yellow-green to a deeper, more lustrous green.

And this is going on my wish list along with the three or four hundred other gems I'd like.

Not yellow, not too dark a green and looks as though it was dropped into a clear pool of ice water.

The Mystic Lore:
Intuitive sources say that Prasiolite helps to link the physical and spiritual aspects of life, activating the heart as one's centre of conscious. It is said to strengthen one's mind, emotions and will, and to attract prosperity.

Talk nicely to Feral Beast, J, he's going to learn faceting in the next few weeks and the stunning stones they have at the gem club are delicious, delectable and oh, so delightful ;)

That's right, throw empty chocolate wrappers at a starving woman.

Jayne, if he's interested in modern interpretation of ancient jewellery, http://www.lalaounis-jewelrymuseum is the place.
Ilias Lalaounis was/is (can't remember) a fabulous goldsmith that went back to Ancient Greece for inspiration. A bit of work with that metal detector and you could be covered in bling.

And before Fleetwood gets here, I meant looked back to Ancient Greece. Nitpicking pom.

Actually, all I was going to do was make a remark about how much that Prasiolite looked like something that fell out of my nose last time I had the flu.

yes, what Brian said.
In the feeds list, the reduced photo shows and it did not look attractive, it looked slimy and creepy.
'faceting' eh? there's a joke in there somewhere dear Jayne, just give me a second.

Ohhh, they look gorgeous, J!
If I was in a bitchy mood I'd make him read it in Russian lol but I'll be nice...for once.
LOL Bwca, he's only 12!

"...said to attract prosperity." Well now, there's a stone worth having. I could use a little prosperity. Or a lot, whichever the universe sees fit to send me. Apart from that, it is a pretty stone and I think a little uncut chunk would look lovely sitting in the bowl next to my amethyst and rose quartz.

Fleetwood, I'll take your word for it and given the size of your beak it's a wonder it wasn't listed as a UFO.

Geez Bwca, there's no pleasing some people, maybe the next one up?

Reading Russian at 12? Most morons around here, not to mention Fleetwood, can't read English.

River, I think it would have to be faceted to show it off but anything for prosperity. If my rose quartz doesn't bring me some peace anytime soon it's getting the sack.

First my nose, then my literacy skills; somebody's clambered out of bed the wrong side this morning and stuck her foot in the jerry.

Dear Fleetwood, if I can't insult you, who can I insult? Ahhh, Sedgwick!

I can do that now he's re-sized all my photos for me. One has to pick carefully one's insultees.

Rose quartz is for healing. I'll get back to you on what you need for peace.

River, that's easy, it's a death in the family.
