LAND OF ICE AND LAVA

This photograph by Martin Rietze is of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano which erupted under the ice of the glacier of the same name.

It started erupting on March 21 and ripped a 1 kilometre long fissure in the ice with massive lava fountains shooting into the air. This lava flow is falling down a steep cliff only a few hundred metres from the main eruption.

The last volcanic eruption in this area which is about 75 miles east of the capital, Reykjavik was in 1821.

And thermos of sweet black tea.
Ready for 2012.

sheesh .. how does one do 'toast'. Am still trying to figure out how to create a presentable 'damper' .. heh

Have though .. found some recipes for 'sourdough' bread. The name is not neccisarily indicative. Look it up.

Stone the Crows! An old bushie with a van got mugged by a wombat this week and I said no it wouldn't be Davo and now you turn up.

Stone the Crows!

That's 189 years, so we can expect the next epruption in or about 2199?

Apparently volcanoes stink. It's worth thinking about before you go traipsing off to have a sticky-beak at one.

Davo, snow? Where the bloody hell are you? You can picture me yelling that in Lara Bingle's bikini if you like.

Jayne, I forgot to tell you to do the clicky thing. The lava flow looks flat in the small photo but large, you can see it's dropping down from a great height.

Davo, if you can make the first batch of sourdough, you're right. I hear that some bakeries in San Francisco are still using starter dough originating during the gold rush era.

Robbert, I saw that old man on the news last night and the wombat gave him a right going over.

River, this one hasn't stopped yet and it must have been fantastic to see it bursting up through the glacier.

Lad, you are so right. There's a volcano in Indonesia that kills with gases and you don't get much warning.
