Way back in May, this year, two bidders battled for 15 minutes to buy this rectangular-shaped blue diamond. The final bid was A$11.63 million to an anonymous buyer. The stone set a record price per carat at the auction at Sotheby's and a new world record price for a blue diamond.
Petra Diamonds mined it from the Cullinan mine in South Africa where most of the world's blue diamonds, of size and quality come from. This stone was mined in 2008, cut in 2009, mounted in a platinum ring and sent straight to auction.
The anonymous buyer has been identified as Joseph Lau Luen-Hung and as the first owner, has the naming rights. The blue diamond will be known as the 'Star of Josephine', all 7.03 carats of it.

Paste sparkles better.
Who would have thunk it, a cheap gay!
Perhaps if it were hanging off the end of something large and tasteful?
Tempted, you would be?
I don't get it. Paste?
Hope it hasn't been cursed. A lot of diamonds coming out of Africa apparently have been. My engagement rock, (now gone back to pawn broker), gave me arthritis in the joint of my little finger. A friend suggested it probably originated in Africa and had been cursed.
I never got a diamon from the father of my children, and have always been resentful, but now I can finally wallow in the pride of not supporting Blood Diamonds.
I suppose
now that Dame Elizabeth has no Burton, that this petrol blue sparkler will end up on a finger under a burqua in Saudi
Link, the only thing that was cursed was nearly being married.
Paste is cheap glass.
Annie O, did you see that Saudi Princess who's hiding in the swanky hotel after owing 24 million to Paris shops? And we worry about a piddling credit card debt.
Whaddya mean nearly? I'm sure I got married. I've still got the decree nisi somewhere.
Nice bit of coloured glass :P
It's pretty, but I prefer my diamonds a little smaller. Something I can wear on my finger, or earring size, a pendant necklace perhaps. The "big blue" would make a nice paperweight.
Link, if it was a married diamond then it was definitely cursed. Mine were psychically cleansed and now I have to look my for decree nisi.
Jayne, diamonds are the layabouts of the gem world, I like a stone that works for a liking. Colour change gems are for me.
River, even as a ring it looked a bit cheapy but something smaller as an enhancer for a string of South Sea Pearls would be okay.
The Decree Nisi should come as a 'Tear-Along-The-dotted-line' Part 2 of the Certification Of Marriage.
(funny how the same c-word is used for insane people)
That's a bloody good idea Ann O'dyne.
Thank you Linkzebub.
I iz jus swinging by to tell JT not to forget Marple tonight. Dishy Mathew Macfadyen is in it. he is married to the actress who was in the first series of Spooks with him - imagine seeing them in the street and thinking you were in an MI5 setup.
Personally I would have called it Trevor.
