I have been handcuffed to the computer for three days because of the snail speed of dial-up with seems to be getting slower. River sent me a program for removing Trojans which took 3 hours to download and messed up every other 'anti' program I had running. It was a good 'anti', River but I think it was too shiny for this old dear.
Microsoft kept trying to install IE8 every time I logged on. Adware wouldn't load updates and took 3 hours to scan the computer. AVG wouldn't load updates and took 5 hours to do a complete scan of everything. Spybot wouldn't load updates but only took 40 minutes to scan.
Total low grade infections/tracking cookies found, ten.
ZoneAlarm is working well. CCleaner is working well.
I've had all those on the computer for four years with updates but anything I try now seems to take forever to download, install and scan. The programs fight with each other, like kids in a sandbox.
I like XP, it's simple, functional, no frills and like a comfy pair of slippers. More to the point, I can work it, just.
It's the speed I'm having problems with. I just bought my Harry Potter ticket over the internet and it took 35 minutes to load all the pages I needed. It could have been less if I hadn't decided to change my seat and had to do everything all over again. Who'd have thought Gold Class would have been booked out until July 22? I was trying to avoid the popcorn munchers and drink slurpers so hopefully they won't be in the 10.30 session.
I realize I'm tempting fate but if there's a death in the family, I'm still going.

Sorry the program seems to have slowed you down. I should have mentioned that it takes forever to load. I have only one other anti program installed and with both of them running they knocked out the little problem I had, but it did take three days. I was thinking they couldn't do the job and was all set to sell half my furniture to pay the computer doctor to come and fix things, when suddenly the pop-ups vanished. Woo-hoo. There's been a disc clean-up and everything going on here. Things are working well. I still have IE8, but it's not so slow now that things have been cleaned up.
I'm not seeing Harry Potter at the cinema, I'll wait and get it on dvd. Then I can pause the action everytime I need a coffee or a pee break. And watch it over and over and over and over......
I got my first computer in 2001. After reading bit about it I did a short course at the CAE (not cheap) in the city, then did another which was almost free at Yarraville Community Centre where I got interested in a classy woman (leather handbag and boots) who taught belly dancing would you believe at the CAE, but nothing came of it. Still, I gave it a good go. OH what an idiot!
I connected to the internet in about 2003, eventually joining 'writer's groups' who fought like mad among themselves. Then I discovered chat rooms: "I'm a young guy who likes older women." And: "Any Melb ladies wanna whisper?" Plus: "LOL, LMAO, ROFL" and so on. They fought like mad as well. I was about to give it all up -then I found Blogs, which seemed mild at first, until I copped the kiddie debating class at LP -and Wooh!- venom like never before! That's what blogs are: personal frustration. There are exceptions, yours mainly.
That's too harsh, most blog people are lovely.
Brahms this evening. Though I wasn't sure. And the cabinet of my piano is stacked against the wall; I'm playing a skeleton.
Octave in D minor, for you Miss J, and for poor old mothers everywhere, gone round the bend.
Any Melb ladies wanna whisper?
J, try this free registry cleaner.
It's sorted out a lot of niggles and quirks that slowed down my pc.
Have fun at HP !
Thanks Jayne but I have crapcleaner which they renamed CCleaner and that's great.
Robbert, I've never been in a chat room but then men lie so much in real life, how could I trust them in cyberspace?
Brahms, no, not a favourite.
She was manic today, swore my nephew had a motorcycle in the kitchen.
River, Microsoft is still trying to make me have IE8 and now it's trying to make me take updates for a program I've uninstalled.
My HP ticket is printed out and it was only $1 surcharge. GoldClass on the 22 is only $25 instead of $37 so I'm going again. You really have to see it on the big screen first.
I'll have to check how much gold class is over here and whether or not my K is going. Maybe we could go together......
Chopin this evening but not serious about it. Wet neons along Nelson Place and not one bum I know in sight, plush little cafes warm and expensive, hairdos and bald heads inside. Funny how you get so fed up at times you'd be glad to see anyone. Meanwhile I've taken my piano to pieces -all the woodwork, I'm getting it restored. And I'm coming to the movies with the pair of you I'll sit in the middle, like a young guy who likes older women.
Rh, I have a troubled spirit on cold nights like last night when I think of people without a way of keeping warm. It troubles me for about an hour before I am tempted and slam the fire on full blast.
You'll have to learn some Celtic airs to woo me.
Sitting between River and me might be hazardous to your health, we could eat you alive. One word, COUGARS!
Hazardous? What's the matter with you, I just love getting my ears twisted every time I reach for a Jaffa.
(Yes, I've had second thoughts)
Get down to Kmart, they've got Crunchies on special: one dollar each. I got five.
d ask them to plan the funeral around the movie time...
